People hold different ideas, especially about the nature of the ideal society. The notion brings the creation of a model society based on the most effective organizing principle. Individuals use such ideologies such as conservatism, liberalism, socialism, communism, and fascism when discussing issues that affect society (Heywood 1). However, they do not have a similar effect in their explanation of the social order, some being stronger and more effective in their account.
Liberalism offers the best blueprint for the creation of social order. The idea behind it is the commitment to the needs and interests of society (Heywood 24). Thus, people should be not oppressed, but allowed the freedom to pursue their goals and achieve fulfillment. Liberals believe that human beings can reason and create an ideal society where the members have the liberty to choose their path in life without interfering with the rights of others. For instance, leaders should trust people to make rational choices and solutions since they are rational beings.
Socialism is the easiest ideology to abuse because of the lack of individual control. It does not allow a free market since the government controls the process. All solutions to social problems are left to the government, leaving a leeway to abuse the power at the expense of the people. In socialism, places the society at the risk of tyrannies because the leadership is left to the elites who use their power to serve their self-interests.
Liberalism at home goes contrary to the achievement of International Corporation. Liberalism supports the creation of an open-minded society with laws protecting people from any oppression or abuse, as well as allowing people the autonomy to make decisions (Heywood 24). Hence, the domestic ideals cannot be effective in building an international order where countries come together to make decisions on behalf of the states. While it might be easier to achieve such an ideal locally, it could be challenging to do the same internationally. The reality is evident in the climate change problem where global cooperation such as the Paris Agreement has failed to address the problem. Representatives of almost 200 countries met in Paris in 2015 to discuss the climate change problem, but have not found a lasting solution (Freeman). Respecting the rights of the people is easier than respecting the sovereignty of other states and still work together to build an ideal global society.
Prescription of liberalism at home might hinder the pursuance of the world order due to the contrasting ideals. The United States, for example, based on liberalism, has been pursuing the idea of creating a global social order by promoting democracy and individual consent (Heywood 41). The concept of social order propagated at home is also critical abroad to help in addressing global challenges, such as climate change and terrorism. However, such efforts are challenged by the liberal idea of protecting the sovereignty of the individual states.
Ideologies are critical as the building blocks of political ideas. They differ in their view of culture, especially when establishing the social order. While efforts to achieve an ideal society have failed in the past, liberalism is the closest the world can come to achieving this objective. Hence, global leaders should support the ideology and implement it in various global efforts, such as addressing climate change.
