The title of the research will be “The Viability of Implementing Parental Advisory on Social Networking Sites.” The selected topic entails the social media platform. The angle I will take on the topic includes the negative effect of social media on children and adolescents and the particular measure that parents can take to prevent the effects, such as cyberbullying. My research will focus on the viability of parental advisory on social media networking sites as an intervention to prevent children and adolescents from cyberbullying both as perpetrators or victims. The research will establish the effectiveness of parental advisory as protective factors in preventing cyberbullying on social media.
Previous researchers have explored the topic of cyberbullying on social media and its effects on children and adolescents. Social media has a major effect on the way children and teenagers interact. Hamm et al. (2015) revealed that although social media is beneficial to the youth in supporting communication, these platforms have detrimental effects on their mental health. The negative outcome of social media use raises questions regarding the role of parents and other caregivers in intervening to address them. Wright (2017) focused on the role of parents in mediating between risk and protective factors related to cyberharassment. Parents are proven to play an instrumental role in protecting children and teenagers from becoming cyberbullies and cyber victims. However, not much has been done on the role of parental advisory in addressing the problem of cyberbullying on children. The current research is on the role of parental advisory as an intervention. It will establish whether the intervention is effective in protecting young people from the negative effect of social media.
