What will the world look like in 2050 in your opinion?
What should we do about this potential revolution?
Olaf (from Frozen 2) says “My theory is that advancing technology will lead to our doom?” – what do you think?
What should leaders be doing about it now and tomorrow in your opinion…?
Solution
Although it is not possible to indicate with certainty whether human will cease to exist soon, it is possible that human will continue to exhibit new characteristics. In a century or two, humans will evolve into beings or entities that are different from modern-day humans just like we are different from Neanderthals (Yuval 07:17-57:35). Soon, there will be beings whose power will originate from data algorithms.
In my opinion, the postmodern world’s norm of life around the year 2050 might be different from the modern world’s social, cultural, and economic way of life. For instance, around one trillion sensors will be connected to the internet (Randel). Technology will focus on human data analysis, computer power, and the use of algorithms. Algorithms will consistently offer better recommendations than the average human decisions. Therefore, algorithms will replace human authority (Yuval 52:21-57:35). People will trust data-driven knowledge more than human knowledge.
Amid this potential revolution, we should be aware that what worked yesterday might not be applicable tomorrow. We should create the future we want by future-proofing ourselves and our businesses (Berkman). A future-proof leader should have awareness, humility, and take action.
According to the assertion made by Olaf, it could either be true or false that “advancing technology will lead to our doom.” Firstly, the technology can spell doom if people do not keep pace with technological advancement. Secondly, the assertion can be false because innovations enable people’s interaction and enhance business operations. Overall, accommodating technology will create a better future, improve businesses, as well as enhance the wellbeing of the entire community.
I believe that leaders should address changes hapening in the world by challenging their assumptions and start viewing the world trends in a different perspective. They should also keep an open mind to any new trends that would emerge to challenge their way of doing business today. In the future, leaders should learn how to accommodate the continuing technological trends like artificial intelligence and quantum computing. These trends are going to impact global businesses and peoples’ way of life.
