Reflection Paper for Professional Communication and Leadership in Healthcare
Working Style
The energy map helped me determine the amount of energy that I apply in typical real-life scenarios, such as class projects, from the start to the end. Most notably, I scored a deliberate intensity level in the explore dynamic. This score means that I require a bit of effort to understand typical situations and develop creative solutions. On the other hand, my intensity level in the excite, examine, and execute dynamics were effortless. This score means that I naturally connect with people and build teams, I efficiently and carefully explore various possibilities in every situation, and I aggressively implement established plans from the previous dynamics and measure performance.
Strengths
One of the strengths associated with my score is that I efficiently obtain higher results when implementing my working styles because I do not require erratic and tense effort, which is related to physical stress. Also, with the effortless score in the dynamic of examine, I easily fit in different curriculums, which are based on specific learning expectations.
Challenges
On the other hand, I often encounter difficulties in comprehending learning presentations due to my deliberate score in the explore dynamic. Furthermore, I tend to waste much time in the first phase of a project as I attempt to comprehend what it entails and the manner in which to tackle it.
Communication Section
During this semester, we have had some online discussions with some of my peers concerning the manner in which we would address various scenarios that occur in our daily lives, a practice that has helped me understand the multiple places of the conversation meter- pretense, sincerity, accuracy, and authenticity. These discussions have also helped me understand the laws of conversation, as each person speaks while others listen to the former’s opinion. At one time, we discussed the steps that we would take if one of our colleagues violated a rule within the healthcare context while attempting to help a patient. I argued that I would report the colleague to our supervisor, a step I would choose to date. Some of my peers agreed with my view, which influenced my belief that they were communicating with sincerity. However, others disagreed with my opinion, which led to the perception that they exhibited pretense and lack of authenticity during the discussion.
Strategies Section
Some of the strategies that I can adapt to become a successful student include setting goals at the beginning of each course to help me stay on track with the learning expectations. Also, I can capitalize on my strength in excite, examine and execute dynamics to build rapport with my peers and facilitator, which can help to seek clarification on areas that prove challenging during the course. Furthermore, reviewing the syllabus at the beginning of the course can equip me with adequate knowledge on the resources required for the course, thus enabling me to overcome the challenge of comprehending the learning presentations and saving on time that may have otherwise been wasted, in trying to understand and develop creative solutions for class projects.
Reflection Section
Overall, this course has significantly broadened my understanding of the laws of conversation and the manner in which they relate to the conversation meter. Also, the course has helped me understand the intensity level of each of my dynamics. The information gathered in this course will help me professionally, to select team members that have diverse scores in the energy map, to facilitate success in projects undertaken within the healthcare context. Also, the information will help me academically to identify areas in which I have lower levels of energy and implement appropriate strategies to offset the challenges associated with such degrees of intensity within the dynamics.
