During the research process, I have used reflexivity, especially when attempting to establish the cause and effect of a phenomenon. Through reflection, I have realized that the cause and effect relationship is bidirectional since both affect one another. Therefore, in many events, it is challenging to assign the cause or effect role on either of the two. Reflexivity has helped me to reflect on the cause and effect relationship while studying the impact of COVID-19 on children’s socialization. I thought reflectively about which of the two variables is the cause of the other, leading to my bidirectional relationship conclusion. For example, while social distancing policies to prevent COVID-19 spreading are the cause of the current lack of socialization, it emerges that uncontrolled socialization could be the cause of the highly spreading of the disease. Thus, the two variables relate in a bidirectional manner.
I have learned a lot from this course that will help in my future research and practice efforts. First, I have realized that the nature of the topic played an important role in whether to use qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods due to the type of data to be collected. Secondly, I have learned that effective research should connect research objectives to the research methodology to collect relevant data to achieve them. After all, research is a concerted attempt to answer a research question and achieve objectives. Thirdly, research should devise an answered research question from the beginning of the research project because it guides the entire data collection process. Finally, I have learned the importance of having a clear purpose for the research process to identify an effective methodology and collect relevant data.
