Introduction
My values and spiritual beliefs are shaped by the traditional Chinese culture that underscores my background. The culture affects my attitude towards nursing and health care by significantly tilting my approach to health care. The Chinese culture espouses a diversity of values of ethical essence along with spiritual nuances. The traditional culture is fundamentally founded on moral principles of humanity and spiritual provisions that accentuate the relationship between man and god. At a moral level, the culture stipulates ways in which people live together in a society glued by a uniform cultural framework (Connell, 2012). My values are anchored on families, proper financial management, loyalty, love, commitment, and hard work. This document presents my values and spiritual beliefs through the lens of healthcare and nursing. These values will be evaluated in terms of cost, quality and social issues. The paper will also discuss the distinction between these beliefs and perspectives of health care.
Description of Personal Values and Spiritual Beliefs
Being brought up in Chinese culture, my values emanated from traditional Chinese. Accordingly, my values include showing gratitude, close family relationship, commitment, working hard, loyalty, saving money, as well as taking care of parents at home. Through close family ties, it is possible to nurture good morals among members and develop a functional society. Taking care of the old is a core value because I believe the old are vulnerable, thus requiring help and assistance (Wallace & OʼShea, 2007). Saving money is a prudent financial management initiative that results in success. Working hard is the only true path to achievement because it facilitates the ethical perspective of success. Commitment is the gist of every endeavor. I believe that people should give themselves for worthy social causes.
Consequently, I consider my family as a source of emotional and moral support because they offer companionship and a source of strength during trying times. A strong family is the best social insurance because it assures of support and security in every endeavor.
I also believe in public health because it offers every citizen a right to access healthcare services as well as addresses the inherent inequalities in accessing health facilities. As a result, I love Obama Care because it is the only universal healthcare program in the United States history. Through Obama Care, the U.S. has made efforts towards guaranteeing the right to health care of all citizens.
Spiritually, I am a Buddhist and my religious creed encompasses a number of qualities and features that include honesty, life-oriented attitudes, kindness, and animal welfare ideals. I believe in animal rights and I would never tolerate harmful activities towards animals. We need to take care of animals just as we take care of the human being.
I might hesitate to accept unauthorized therapy or treatment by the insurance company because it goes against my values and beliefs. In fact, insurance only plays a role in dictating health care; it does not offer any meaningful help to those who cannot afford it.
Differences in my Beliefs and Opinion about Health
Elements of cost, quality, and social issues immensely influence my description, belief and opinion of health care because they are imbibed in my culture. First, I believe that health care should be of good quality to serve the purposes of changing the lives of people. Since health is related to respect for life, it should be given greater focus. Health care should be affordable in order to guarantee fairness in the pursuit of better outcomes. The universal health care plan is the best because it is affordable and accessible to all.
How Issues Influence Health Perspective
My personal beliefs and values inherently influence my health perspective because I have been conditioned to see things through the lens of my cultural beliefs. Therefore, through values of taking care of the old, I believe that an effective healthcare program should be personalized and care-oriented. Hence, the consideration of ethics in developing healthcare plans is important. I believe that it is noble to offer an affordable health insurance where people can save money for purposes of accessing health services.
Inconsistencies
There are several inconsistencies between my values and the actual health care systems in place. First, I believe that the concept of health care is not care-oriented because most of the healthcare systems are professionally created to fulfil established goals. There is no personalized care in healthcare facilities. Ethical values as not respected in healthcare because corruption is rampant and few rich people control the pharmaceutical and health insurance sector for personal gain. Therefore, much of what happens in healthcare is inconsistent with my beliefs and values.
Conclusion
In essence, my cultural background is traditional Chinese having been brought up in accordance with traditional Chinese culture. I belong to the Buddhist religion. I believe in strong family ties, taking care of the old, honesty, kindness and ethics. These beliefs influence my perception of healthcare in the sense that I do not encourage the idea of insurance, but I support Obama care because of the universality and affordability aspects. However, there are numerous inconsistencies between my beliefs and the actual healthcare industry.
