Michigans MCOLES requirements
The candidates being enrolled in law enforcement in Michigan must demonstrate proficiency in writing, reading, and in physical fitness. The examinations test the critical skills required of law enforcement implementers where the pre-enrollment test is part of the selection process. Candidates must pass all the exams to qualify to become licensed police officers. State licensing of police officers is given upon completion of all the academic requirements and successful completion of the training programs.
The writing and the reading tests are designed to measure the reading and writing comprehension of the candidates and all persons entering law enforcement must demonstrate proficiency in reading and writing. Candidates taking part in the test must be at least eighteen years and above and must have a valid driving license with picture identification. The reading and writing test predicts subsequent training for law enforcement professionals. The candidates must be US citizens and have a minimum of an associate degree or higher. The test costs $68 (MCOLES, 2015). Reading and writing skills enable law enforces to give intelligent reporting and accurate documentation of events.
All the candidates entering law enforcement should pass the physical fitness test and the test must be taken within six months of the start of the academy training session. The sessions involve push-ups, sit-ups, vertical jump, and the half-mile shuttle run. Requirements for the physical fitness test are gym shoes, shorts, sweatsuit, athletic supporter, and a valid driving license. Candidates must have a completed form of health screening from the physician and should pay $45 for the training program (MCOLES, n.d). In conclusion, being physically fit is vital for the success of police officers in their duties.
