Lean model is applicable in nursing practice since it enhances scientific inquiry during service delivery. According to Halm et al. (2018), Lean-EBP model is utilized to manage professionalism and implement clinical practice for continuous improvements. Given that EBP is a clinical model that enhances scientific inquiry, hence integrating the model in a care setting establishes value in shared decision making between patients and healthcare professionals (Halm et al., 2018). Accordingly, incorporating lean thinking within clinical care encourages change and develops measures that enhances service delivery by encouraging inter and intra professional consultations. Although nurses apply various services to support patients, integrating Lean-EBP in nursing practice enhances the spirit of inquiry, precision, and security in Medical healthcare records.
Entering healthcare reports in an electronic records system consumes quality medical time. Clinicians spend more time on nonproductive activities such as record entries, which would be used to provide care to patients (Dinkins, Arnold, Charlene Banta, & RHIA, 2018). The application of the lean methodology to Electronic Health Records (EHR) eliminates delays, redundancy, and errors in EHR, leading to high efficiency. Dinkins et al. (2018) illustrate that the adoption of “first-generation documentation system” as an EHR infrastructure, manages the limitations for a physical and occupational therapist as they render services to both inpatients and outpatients. Therefore, the lean model is applied to define, improve, analyze, and control framework that promotes documentation and clinical care for effective EHR. Additionally, the application of the lean model improves quality, enhances stakeholder satisfaction, and reduces time wastages for therapists, which translates to enhanced patient outcomes (Dinkins et al., 2018). Applying lean-EBP augments technology utilization for the EHR and improves the delivery of care to patients.
