Kobe Bryant – Mindset
Many people have succeeded in their endeavors, including sports. One such person is Kobe Bryant, one of the greatest basketball players in recent history. In the video, The Mindset of a Winner, Kobe explains the mindset that enabled him to play and win. The video teaches that the most important step for success is to understand what one wants and remain focused on the goal (The Mindset of a Winner). Discipline is a key factor in achieving the goal and becoming successful in whatever one sets one mind. According to Kobe, he always knew what he wanted and focused on being the best and never lost his focus. Another important lesson is the need to understand the areas of weakness is important to work on them and improve the ability to work towards the ultimate success. I believe that drawing lessons from Kobe can help one to succeed in sports and business.
I admire Kobe’s competitive drive since it helped him succeed and become one of the world’s best basketball players. He teaches the viewer that any person focused on success should rely on their strong points, such as his speed. He understood that he was so fast and built on the strength to become better. In the winner-takes-all environment, the winner mindset determines who wins or loses (Inoue 276). Since people are always competing in various aspects of life, they can draw important lessons regarding the need to remain focused, focus on strengths, and work on weaknesses to win.
The lessons from the view are relevant to winning in sales. Notably, marketers or salespeople are always competing for customers with rivals in the target market. People, including marketers, should understand the “game”. Thus, before entering the market, they should first understand the market and how their products meet consumers’ needs. They should also understand their role and become emotionally ready to play the part to win in the competition. Marketing and other projects, like sports, have obstacles that a determined person should be willing to face and overcome. Regardless of obstacles, the team should have the winner mindset to overcome them.
What stood out the most for me was the need for a person in business or sports to be passionate about what they do and be willing to make some sacrifices when necessary. For example, Bryant gave the game his best at the expense of some relationships, but people who cared about him understood. Thus, when one finds something that means the most to them, such as marketing a service or product, they should be willing to give it the best.
Information from the video applies to marketing and sales to become successful in whichever market one ventures. One should understand the business and develop a culture and a team willing to invest their time and resources to realize the vision. Members of the team should be obsessed with the idea to be determined to support it to succeed. They should be willing to challenge themselves to do what appears impossible since the curiosity will drive them to complete whatever project they set their eye to. When creating a sales team, the leader should work with those who are prepared to win since they will add value, such as optimizing revenue and profitability. Therefore, having a winner mindset is the core of success in all projects, whether in business or sports.
