As a sales and car rental intern, I will update all Kosifler Auto’s data collected since 2010. I meet with companies that have rented a long-term premium vehicle from our company or have the potential to rent, collect their contact information and inform them about our advantages. As a marketing and sales strategy, I observe the sales consultants in my department and collect regular feedback every day. In long-term car rental, we identify potential customers, categorize them, and work on developing company-specific marketing strategies.

1.3 Background Information
Kosifler Group of companies was founded in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1945. Between inception and 1974, the company was a sole proprietorship but started taking steps towards incorporation. In 1987, Kosifler Oto established the first BMW after-sales service center on the Asian side of Istanbul. It opened a modern BMW dealership in Anatolia, Antalya in 1993 due to large tourism investment in the area (Oto, 2021). The expansion continued until it acquired the Antalya dealerships of Land Rover, MINI, and MG in 1998.
The Kosis family was the founding family that built the Kosifler Auto sales and after-sales center and the Kosifler Center Commercial Complex. The Kosifler Group of companies is among Turkey’s oldest and most respected family companies (Oto, 2021). The respect is due to the structural composition, practical management approach, and financial capabilities. The company has diversified in to construction, automotive, tourism, insurance, maritime, and informatics. Kosifler Oto is the branch of the company concerned with the automotive business (Oto, 2021). To date, the Kosifler Group of companies continues to actively participate in construction, automotive, informatics, insurance, export, tourism, and maritime.
1.4 Product and Services
The company offers services in used automotive cars like BMW, MINI, and Land Rover. The company has achieved its objective of customer satisfaction at the highest level through pre-sales and after-sales services by offering uninterrupted services in areas of new and used car sales, service, and insurance (Oto, 2021). The channels of distribution include; showrooms and car dealerships in different locations.
After-Sales Services: The Company offers an online appointment service that allows customers to choose their consultants.
Rent-A-Car: The customers have an option of renting a car on long-term contacts for comfort and mobility. A link on the website directs the customers to a rental request form, which eases the process of physically going to fill a request form (Oto, 2021).
Boutique: The Kosifler Oto Company aims to continue providing consumers satisfaction through establishing showrooms with original boutique products (Oto. 2021). The customers can access the online portal from the comfort of their homes and examine the products closely.
Kosifler Insurance: The customer is offered insurance with contracted insurance companies through the Kosifler Auto Authorized Agency and Service (Oto, 2021). The customer portal has a link with a list of insurance companies that Kosifler Oto has a service insurance agreement with.

Recently, the company has been the pioneer in completing four Hilton hotels in Katahya, Sanliurfa, Mardin, and Konya. The market position of Kofler Company is excellent because of being a pioneer in most of the dealerships in BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, and Mini sales in Turkey (Oto, 2021). The competitive position is highly secured because the company has diversified into other areas of the economy thus, increasing the financial capabilities and resources necessary to enable sustainable development. Besides the initial showrooms and car dealerships, Kofler Oto has progressively built more showrooms in a different region of Turkey to ensure a countrywide customer base. Also, the company has initiated mergers and strategies of associate companies to increase the competitive advantage further.
2.0 DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
2.1 Sales and Marketing Department Functions
2.1.1 Goal and Objective Setting
The sales and marketing department of Kofler Oto offered a suitable work environment to gain the necessary skills and experience in marketing. Initially, the department ensures that the company sets achievable goals and objectives. The goals and objectives are evaluated quarterly and annually to determine the efficacy and progress of implementation (Oto, 2021). The department is responsible for identifying the regions in which the company made more sales or projected low sales. Constant research in the different locations determined the reasons for low or high sales and used recommendations to develop effective strategies to attract more customers.
2.1.2 Product Pricing and Distribution
The sales and marketing department determined the products, pricing, and distribution planning. The department directly communicated with the customers getting feedback on market trends and customer satisfaction. The information is relayed to the relevant department that determines the kind of products the company seeks to introduce or enhance existing products and services. After carefully considering the customers’ wants and needs, the sales and marketing department gives recommendations on the products to develop, push, or drop and the price range that will guarantee increased sales.
2.1.3 Customer Service and Sales
The sales and marketing department working directly with the customers or clients, gets feedback on customer satisfaction. The feedback from customers is necessary for promoting a customer-centered approach during conduct sales. The company, through the sales and, marketing division facilitates surveys that gauge customer satisfaction, needs, and product preferences. Problems arising between the company and the customer are first taken to the sales and marketing manager; in consultation with the relevant department or staff member, the issues are addressed to avoid further complications or losing potential customers.
3.0 INTERNSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
The internship opportunity at Kosifler Oto involved interacting with the sales and marketing consultants and supervisors. There were general and daily responsibilities that all interns would fulfill.
3.1 General and Daily Internship Responsibilities
The responsibilities included;
- Data entry; as an intern, I was given the responsibility to update the company’s sales data collected from 201o until during the internship period. The data was to be converted from paper to electronic system, easing the transfer of information to the different departments and making sales comparisons.
- Customer categorization; I was responsible for collecting customer information and educating the customers on the advantages of choosing Kosifler for rental cars or products, including used and new cars. Similarly, I would identify and categorize the potential customers and use the information to suggest customer-specific strategies.
- Clerical duties; as a daily routine, I was responsible for answering and responding to calls, making customer calls, organizing and scheduling appointments, reviewing files and information on requests, handling inquiries and incoming work requests, and taking and distributing messages.
- Social media campaign; I was responsible for coordinating the other interns in building and social media campaigns and preparing promotional messages, materials, and presentations.
- Meet with potential customers; under the supervision of a sales consultant, the company allowed the interns to meet with potential customers and observe how the sales consultants pitched to the customer. An intern was supposed to collect feedback and improve their communication skills.
- Meet with companies that had rented a long-term premium vehicle from Kosifler Auto.
- MAJOR PROJECTS/ACCOMPLISHMENTS
The major accomplishment during the internship period was when I conducted research on market sales and how the company would attract more customers. Using survey questions, I took one month to collect the information and presented the findings to the sales and marketing supervisor. The company’s recommendations to be made confidential were implemented in through new policy and customer operations, attracting more customers to the company and increasing sales of used and new cars. The figure below represents the sales projection before the internship and during the internship period.

The figure below represents the projected sales increase or decrease during the internship period. The company realized an increase in BMW and Land Rover’s new and used cars sales, neutral in MINI sales, and a decrease in Jaguar car sales.
- CAREER POSSIBILITIES
After carefully evaluating the company and the sales and marketing department, the possible positions that suit my experience and skills are; sales representative, sales executive, and marketing officer. The positions are suitable because I can deliver on the job responsibilities.
- Sales representative had the following duties; generating potential customer leads, meeting sales goals, give sale presentations, prepare weekly and monthly reports, help in determining pricing schedules for promotions and negotiations, and negotiating contracts with prospective customers.
- Sales executive had the following responsibilities; maintaining precise records, reviewing sales performance, negotiating contracts and packages, demonstrating products and presentations, meeting with clients virtually or during client visits.
- The marketing officer had the following responsibilities; to plan, prepare, and manage the publication and distribution of publicity materials, devising marketing campaigns, organizing marketing events like sales exhibitions, and representing the company during sales events.
6.0 PERSONAL CAREER REFLECTIONS
During the internship, most of my skills were enhanced. For instance, I was able to build confidence and communications skills. My strengths included; excellent communication with the customers, great presentation of recommendations and research, good at creating awareness on the company products, creating effective social media campaigns, and excellent organization of data and sales events like exhibitions. The only weakness that I need to work on is the ability to withstand pressure and work in a fast-moving environment with minimal supervision.
7.0 INTERNSHIP ASSESSMENT
The internship provided an opportunity to gain hands-on experience and training in a natural work environment. However, the experience came with some pros and cons that will be illustrated below.
7.1 Internship Pros
I gained real work experience; the Kosifler Oto Company allowed me to experience a natural work environment. The internship period and process enhanced the knowledge I had through practical work and job responsibilities. Also, I was able to learn soft skills that would influence my future professional interactions. The opportunity presented practical experience in my chosen field of study. The experience solidified my passion for pursuing a career in sales and marketing because the returns are fulfilling.
The opportunity established the beginning of career networking, providing mentors and trainers to enhance my skills further. During the internship, I accomplished my tasks diligently, impressing the internship supervisors, and thus guaranteed that I have a chance to secure permanent employment in the company when an opportunity arises. The internship record boosts my curriculum vitae by indicating that I gained meaningful experience.
The internship assisted in choosing a career specialty and the area I wish to pursue professionally. Sales and marketing have several opportunities which I realized would be beneficial while working as an intern. Also, my self-confidence was boosted by accomplishing tasks and receiving appreciation and acknowledgments from the supervisor.
7.2 Internship Cons
The downside to the internship is that sometimes the sales and marketing department had unrealistic expectations that exceeded my capabilities. The high expectation exerted a lot of pressure on me on some days. Failing to achieve the expectations resulted in feelings of failure. Also, I was treated as an assistant and allocated menial job that did not contribute to career development.
The other downside was the little stipend that could not cater for all the basic requirements straining my financial abilities. The job location was far from my residential place; therefore, I was required to have transport that the allocated stipend could not sustain
