- Describe the Focus of Economic History and Provide an Example on How you Would Apply its Teachings to Contemporary Problems. (10pt)
Economic history deals with the historical study of the financial aspects that affect the human existence. Economic history can be traced back to British neoclassical economics. Since then, economics has advanced in terms of growth and innovations. An example of an innovative economic initiative was taken during the interbellum period when prices fluctuated regularly. During the time, there was the ambitious publishing of Cambridge Economic History of Europe. The journal helped to educate people on the effects of the economic changes, and explain why the prices kept fluctuating.
What Were the Major Changes in Agriculture and Society that Took Place with the Neolithic Revolution? (10pt)
The Neolithic Revolution is also known as the Agricultural Revolution. One of the significant changes that occurred due to the Neolithic Revolution is the transition from small nomadic bands of hunters and gatherers to larger agricultural settlements (History.com Editors). Another significant change is that cities grew out of the farmers’ innovations due to the Neolithic Revolution. Also, the Neolithic populations’ life expectancy reduced compared to that of the hunters and gatherers. The nutritional standards also reduced, and they worked long hours as compared to the hunters and gatherers.
Did the Neolithic Revolution Change the Level of Income Inequality and, if so, How? (10pt)
Yes, the Neolithic revolution changed the level of income inequality. Some farmers became more empowered, while others were not empowered. After the Neolithic revolution, some of the farmers had access to better lands. This increased their income, while those who had no access to good lands had lower income. This, therefore, created income inequality between the farmers. The farmers who did not have large land pieces would work for the ones who had big lands. Consequently, Neolithic was more advantageous to the farmers with significant lands.
