Creating a learning Organization
Human resource management should lead the change to create a learning organization through teamwork and other motivation-creating strategies to ensure that employees support the process. The management should assure employees that the change is necessary and beneficial in the long-term to eradicate the current fear that affects their performance. Current issues with the current workforce’s motivation and morale need to be addressed by creating a learning organization to improve commitment, performance, and productivity.
The Morale and Motivation Issues for the Production workers
The human resource management should understand and address morale and motivation issues among production workers at Virginia Meats, Inc. (VMI). Employees in the production department disagree regarding their work models between the older and new production team members. The two groups rarely communicate due to the conflict between them and disagreements regarding their behavior and work ethics. Besides, employees in the prediction department are concerned about implementing modern manufacturing techniques that could take their jobs.
The Morale and Motivation Issues for the Company Workers
The morale and motivation issues affecting VMI are not limited to the production department since they affect all employees. Employees in the company, especially older ones, feel like they will be replaced by machines due to increasing automation and perceive a threat to their close southern family” culture when the Chinese company, Shanghou (SHU) acquires VMI. Regardless of the assurance that the acquiring company will not make any changes, employees are concerned about working with foreigners, downsizing, less face-to-face interaction, language differences, and more electronic systems.
The Impact of the Issues on the Production Department and the Company
Motivation is the requirement to improve employee commitment and their performance due to the internal and external drive to work better. Thus, the issues affecting the morale and motivation in the production department and the organization could reduce performance and productivity when employees quit working hard. Besides, lack of motivation could affect employee commitment and organizational ownership, which is a critical factor in high-performing employees (10 Effects Of Groupthink And How To Avoid Them, 2016). The production team and organization could experience issues, such as poor quality products, reduced quantity produced per day, and decline in sales revenue.
Learning Organization Approach to Resolve the Issues
The human resource management should create a VMI learning culture to resolve the morale and motivation issues and improve performance through the transition. The learning organization approach will ensure that leaders create and work with key employees, new and older, to support the organizational change (McShane & Glinow, 2017). Leaders will empower the team to support other employees through training and coaching to understand the need to invest in technology to improve production (Smith, 2001). The organization should give all employees the opportunity for growth and development. A learning organization will ease the change during acquisition, culture change and improved productivity and profitability through a satisfied workforce.
The change in VMI is necessary for business continuity through improved performance. To successfully resolve the current issues, I will lead the change in three ways. First, I will create team comprising of new and older employees to improve communication and collaboration. Secondly, I will train the teams, explaining the need for the change and developing new skills to work under the new technology-based environment. Lastly, I will create reward programs to motivate employees who embrace the learning environment to improve individual and team performance.
