Nursing Care Models Worksheet |
Identify the model of nursing care that you observed. Be specific about what you observed, who was doing what, when, how and what led you to identify the particular model
Synergy Model for Patient Care A synergy model for patient care supports the nursing practices by improving professionalism and enhancing patient’s experience in healthcare. I observed the application of the synergy model in the nursing profession and witnessed that when the model is applied, nurses perform specific roles while receiving assistance from their senior colleagues leading to better collaboration. In addition, it also focuses more on attracting and retaining nurses in professional practice. In the synergy model, roles are established and distributed within the practices. For example, I observed that while applying the model, a triage doctor in the emergency unit manages all functions leading admission into the relevant ward. The triage nurse handled preliminary tests and channeled the patients to various departments, such as laboratory and clinical desks before a final decision of admission is conducted in an outpatient department. I also observed that the model supports healthcare providers to predetermine the patient’s characteristics and match them with professional competencies during care. For example, a patient with diet challenges was matched to an expert nurse in nutrition and dietetics to support their needs. The nurse then ensured that the type and quality of meals were managed as per the nutritional limitations. I noted that the model works best in primary healthcare systems and guided clinical staffs during their professional practice. For example, professionally trained theatre nurses handled their roles and supported others through skill building. Additionally, anesthetists managed their roles and supported inexperienced colleagues to gain competencies in their professional practice |

Synergy Model for Patient Care A synergy model for patient care supports the nursing practices by improving professionalism and enhancing patient’s experience in healthcare (Georgiou, Amenudzie, Ho, and O’Sullivan, 2017). Georgiou et al. (2017) aver that the model empowers nurses to attain control of the professional practices and the environment of work. It also responds to the needs of patients by establishing competencies and resource prospects of the expected care. The model employs integrated approaches to professionalism and quality of service (Georgiou et al., 2017). Synergy model is an effective “operating system” for managing nursing and healthcare services. The findings by Georgiou et al. (2017) establish that the majority of RNs (80%) in the study rate their commitment as either ideal or busy, but manageable in the synergy model. Therefore, the synergy model is an ideal practice that supports professionalism. |
Review and summarize one scholarly resource (not including your text) related to a different nursing care model that you observed in the practice setting. Inter-Professional Practice Model Inter-professional collaboration (IPC) is a progressive nursing model in modern healthcare management. Regan, Laschinger, and Wong (2016) maintain that the model transforms healthcare sector by addressing issues related to nurse shortage. Accordingly, the authors aver that IPC is a significant policy approach in managing patients’ safety. For instance, it inspires a collaborative, participatory, and coordinated approach to realize integrated decision-making in social and health issues between clients and teams of healthcare professionals (Regan et al., 2016). Through this approach, job satisfaction is achieved among professional staff. In addition, the authors illustrate that nurses are strategically placed within the healthcare system to promote the principles of IPC. Thus, the model supports quality services through collaborative approaches between various healthcare professionals. IPC is an effective foundation employed to achieve professionalism in service delivery. Regan et al. (2016) revealed that the model reduces job burnout and increases organizational trust and civility within professional practice. The authors applied three variables, including structural empowerment, authentic leadership, and professional practice environments as a component of IPC. The model builds confidence in nurses, encourages participation in the practice environment, and creates autonomy. By applying an integrated approach in care, inter and intradepartmental support can develop safety measures for nurses, leading to improved levels of clinical management. Therefore, IPC should be applied in the healthcare system to improve patients experience and build motivation for healthcare professionals. |
Discuss a different nursing care model from step #3 of the directions and how it could be implemented to improve quality of nursing care, safety and staff satisfaction. Be specific. Professional Practice Model Nursing models are important instruments in professional practice. The Professional Practice Model (PPM) provides a foundation of quality service in the nursing practice. Skilled application of PPM within the nursing profession provides the impetus for quality in work assignments (Slatyer, Coventry, Twigg, & Davis, 2016). The model can be utilized to achieve set targets and deliver effective healthcare services. Job satisfaction is a key aspect that enhances service in proficient practice since the model focus on professionalism. Institutions can conduct training and capacity building session to illustrate the expectations of the model in the nursing profession. By doing so, nurses will be proficient in applying the model and enhancing quality and value in service. When institutions employ PPM in the workplace, it enhances work fulfillment and increases retention rates for healthcare workers. Implementing the model will also generate incentives for professional growth and enhance quality for patients and their families. As Slatyer et al. (2016) explain, PPM mainstream two approaches of professional visibility and self-confidence, which delivers professional authority for nurses. When the model is applied, it enhances independence and collaboration in the delivery of quality patient care. Freeman (2015) maintains that the approach eliminates economic disproportion of patients during cancer management. Therefore, it improves professionalism and job satisfaction in healthcare workers. PPM also recognizes that nurses work autonomously but not in isolation. Hence, the model strengthens shared governance and nursing leadership, which supports decision-making (Slatyer et al., 2016). Therefore, applying the model in nursing practice encourages safety practices due to the integrated approach and leadership systems. |
Summarize this assignment and what you learned about the two nursing care models discussed. Nursing care models are interventions that enable access to quality and improved care experiences for patients, their families, and specialists. The models provide practical approaches to managing various scenarios within the healthcare system. For instance, when supporting financially challenged individuals to realize quality care, models may reduce prevalence levels for chronic and infectious illnesses. Additionally, the model enhances motivation among clinical workers and improves professionalism in medical practice. Accordingly, models that adopt integrated and inter-professional collaboration enhances motivation, leading to quality and value of service provided. Therefore, appropriate models should be encouraged to cultivate excellence and improve services in the healthcare sector.
