You will study the organization that you identified in your Identifying Communities assignment. This part of the assignment is a follow-up from that assignment; you will analyze the organization and propose a tool that the organization could use (or use differently) to better contribute to social justice. I will assess your work for this essay (1,200 to 2,000 words) based on the rubric that will be in Canvas.
In your essay, you need to identify something about the organization that you feel you can contribute to, or expound upon. This is not meant to be a “this is what you could do better!” type of assignment (see below), especially if this is an organization that you are not self-identified as part of. However, you can search through their organization’s website, social media, community partnerships, civic engagement, etc. to identify and articulate where you can be an effective ally for the organization’s progression.
This may be something that you choose to make available to the organization, but you do not have to for this assignment.
You may choose to reach out to the organization for material that will help you with this paper, such as: pamphlets and/or other reading material. This may be helpful if the organization does not have these things on their website, or if their physical location is closed due to COVID or people are out-of-office for the time being.
You will need to include research around what the organization is currently doing or has previously done to address the equity issue that you may be trying to address with your solution(s). That shows a thorough engagement with how you can better support, in your essay.

What a contribution that isn’t “here’s how you can do better” might look like:
The importance of a specific solution (e.g., I would like to start a volunteer newsletter for this organization that I’m already a part of) rather than generalities (e.g., the organization should communicate more with the community)

Founded in 2009, Heal the World has grown to become an essential player in serving social justice and helping the world focus on preventive care. Heal the World functions as a not-for-profit organization cultivating a culture of health and wellness of the body, mind, and spirit. However, the organization’s desire to offer natural, non-invasive treatments to clients worldwide comes with challenges due to the high costs of these natural non-invasive methods and the failure of health insurance to cover them. By reviewing the organization through its official website, social media pages, and its coverage on other online pages, I realized that Heal the World does not reach the intended market as expected. I realized that the organization has very few social media followers and, as a result, felt that I can help it improve its social media presence to reach a wider audience and spread its mission further.
Heal One World Publicity
Heal One World guides individuals in need of natural, non-invasive treatment methods to improve their health and wellbeing. In its message encouraging well-wishers to donate to its course, Heal One World states that it seeks to improve the World’s access to natural, non-invasive treatment methods for those that afford and those that cannot afford its services (Heal One World). The organization adds that those wishing to donate can donate as little as $1 to maintain its course (Heal One World). However, I feel that Heal One World does not robustly structure this message to appeal to its target population.
Heal One World can improve its social media presence and reach a wider audience if it requests its beneficiaries to share its message and mission to friends and family. In reviewing Heal One World, Great Non-Profits pointed out that the organization focuses on helping people connect with traditional self-help techniques (Great Non-Profits). The post receives significant reactions, with more than 100 people who benefitted from Heal One World’s programs appreciating the services. However, Heal the World fails to ignite a similar or even stronger reaction, with some of its social media posts attracting zero comments and reactions. In my view, Heal One World’s failure to attract traffic to its social media pages boils down to its content and message presentation. Idealist provided information about Heal One World on its page. In its description of One World, it pointed out that Heal One World helps connect people in need of preventive care with natural, non-invasive methods to improve their health and wellbeing (Idealist). Idealist picked this message directly as presented on Heal One World’s page and posted it. With the message somewhat lacking appealing features, I believe Heal One World can improve its focus on social justice by strengthening its messages and targeting social media as a powerful marketing tool.
Heal One World takes part in the Awareness Film Festival. The organization believes that by taking part in film and music production and promotion, it spreads its goal and helps both children and adults improve their health and wellbeing (Apollo). It seems that Heal One World has gained the necessary attention with different organizations reviewing it on their websites through its course. For instance, eBay reviewed Heal One World, claiming that the organization teaches people about natural methods of improving health and wellbeing (eBay). Global Living also reviewed Heal One World. It pointed out that Heal One World collaborates with various social and healthcare organizations such as the Venice Family Clinic to help individuals build self-esteem through health and wellness (Global Living). Pro Publica reviewed Heal One World as part of its program focusing on not-for-profit organizations. The organization claimed that Heal One World functions as general health and rehabilitative organization, and its services and facilities help individuals build their body, spirit, and mind (Pro Publica). It adds that Heal One World pays tax for its donations. As One World depends on donations and pays tax from the donations, it needs to increase its donation margin to minimize the possibility of service disruption. However, it can only achieve this feat if it works on its social media presence.
Heal One World holds classes to help people understand and utilize natural preventive care methods to improve their health. The organization holds classes on a free or sliding-scale and teaches all interested individuals life-saving techniques to enhance health and wellness (Awareness Film Fest). Heal One World asserts that it was formed to connect people to non-invasive treatment options in its mission statement. Through its focus on preventive care, Heal One World improves overall health and wellness and contributes to social justice (Volunteer Match). Another organization that reviews Heal One World, the Department of Cultural Affairs, points out that Heal One World serves its social course appropriately. Heal One World takes part in various social courses such as the Awareness Film Festival, whereby it informs and inspires while addressing critical topics such as ecology, politics, health and wellbeing, and spiritual issues (Department of Cultural Affairs Los Angeles). With this focus, it seems Heal One World has reiterated itself as an organization focused on improving social justice and changing the World.
Powerful Messages, Powerful Media, Strong Outreach
Based on a review of Heal One World by various organizations, institutions, and government departments, it becomes increasingly evident that the organization effectively fulfills its mandate. Additionally, Heal One World has cultivated a culture of understanding and coexistence with various organizations despite only being formed in 2009. However, the organization needs to review its social media use. Social media presents a powerful, non-paid yet profitable marketing tool. As identified above, Heal One World lacks an authentic connection with the social media world, with its pages failing to attract sufficient traffic and reactions. I believe I can play a critical role in shaping Heal One World’s social media presence to improve its fortunes and refine its general appeal.
One of the methods that Heal One World can improve its social media presence is by sponsoring its pages. Social media houses millions of users and many giant organizations have used this platform to enhance their profitability. In my role at Heal One World, I would offer to operate its social media pages. Given this permission, I will structure the organization’s messages and content to elicit conversations and reactions. I will use the organization’s powerful social course, its role in changing lives in the United States and all over the World, and the relentless need for preventive care to enhance health and wellness to reach and connect with a wide social media audience. Additionally, in this role, I will request those benefitting or who have benefitted from the organization’s services to share their testimonials to encourage others to take an interest or donate to support its social justice course. With the right message and framing it the right way, I will identify a method that Heal One World can use its social media pages to better contribute to social justice and grow as a not-for-profit organization.
Conclusion
Heal One World helps individuals improve health and wellness through its commitment to social justice. The organization has stamped its name among organizations focused on health and wellness. However, Heal One World needs to understand social media’s power, enhance its utilization of this powerful marketing tool, and improve its overall appeal to donors and health and wellness seekers.
