The work of art by Clause is from the Impressionist movement, and the landscape played a critical role in his paintings. The painter was focused on one element of landscape, the color. His paintings reflected how, over the course of a day, colors kept varying. He used color to show how light over the course of the day affected the color of the stacks of wheat. He used color to show that landscape was not in existence in its own right. The appearance of the landscape changed from time to time as the contiguous ambiance brought it to life. Hence, the paintings used color to bring to life the elements in it. As a colorist, the painter of atmosphere and light used a high level of abstraction (Kass, Harland, and Donnelly 140). The work shows evidence of a painter who was responsive to the decorative elements of color. The contrasts revealed in using the different colors are significant to the painting.
