Respond to the following prompt in 90 to 100 words. Includeat least one source to support your response.
- What is burnout? What are 4 to 5 factors that contribute to burnout in human service careers? How do these factors contribute to burnout? What can you do to prevent burnout?
Workers in human service careers may experience job burnout. Burnout is a type of work-related stress associated with attrition, low productivity, and lack of job satisfaction (Kirk-Brown & Wallace, 2004). Factors that could lead to burnout in human service careers include work-life imbalance, workload increase, ambiguities in the roles held, a decline in wage rates, and limited chances for upward growth. These factors contribute to burnout by subjecting the service workers to emotional and physical exhaustion, which culminate to job associated stress during the employment period (Rosenberg & Pace, 2006). The studies reveal that burnout can be prevented by encouraging communication and adopting coping mechanisms in the organization structure (Kim & Stoner, 2008). Overall, work-related stress is connected to an organization’s support, organizational structure, and the workers coping mechanisms.

There are many people who are currently working in a career in corrections and are interested in career advancement. Respond to the following questions in approximately 25 to 40 words each:
- What types of strategies would you recommend to someone who is looking for personal and professional growth in his or her career?
Personal and professional career growth is about acquiring new skills and experiences. This can be achieved by employing strategies such as taking up more challenging roles and acquiring qualifications through training (Tomlinson, 2004). In addition, volunteering for corporate work, taking up a role to gain specific experience, and building a personal profile through public speaking or sales representative jobs can enhance the experience and skills in individual career.
- How does this relate to your desired career in human services or corrections?
Personal and professional growth in the human services career is significant because experience and skills can increase the chances of working at the federal level or in other high-ranking positions within the prison system. For job satisfaction in the human service career, which is characterized by competitive benefits, an individual must exhibit skills to cope with engaging situations in a correctional facility (Thomas, Kohli & Choi, 2014). Growth in personal and professional expertise is essential in the service career because it will enhance a person-environment interactive framework.
